Search for Spanish Teacher
Our Spanish teacher, Gabriela Pohl, resigned and is no longer teaching Spanish at CCE. She received a full time offer at a preschool and she and her husband made the difficult decision to take it. Though we are disappointed because she was doing a great job, we understand that the needs of one’s family come first.
The Spanish Committee is in the process of finding a replacement so we can continue this wonderful program, and we hope to have one in place shortly. We have some candidates that we are considering, however if you know of someone that is interested in teaching Spanish on a part-time, substitute-rate basis, please forward them to Alexandra Goff at 219-8254.
Thank you so much for your support! It is truly a blessing that our children have the opportunity to experience the Spanish language and culture. Please know that we will find a wonderful teacher to continue this exposure!

Volunteers Needed!    ATTENTION PARENTS - PLEASE CONSIDER VOLUNTEERING FOR THE BELOW OPEN PTA POSTIONS!

Nominating Committee - Every year the PTA has a group of 3 members that help to create the Executive Board slate for the following year.  We are looking for PTA members that would like to help and be part of the Nominating Committee fro 2010.  We need 3 members and an alternate.  If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Kelly Clark at mama4clark@yahoo.com.  The Nominating Committee will be elected at the February general meeting of the PTA.

Family Fun Festival Lead - An annual carnival event needs a leader.  The date is set for March 6th. Volunteers are needed to help coordinate carnival booths, set up and clean up, volunteer to run booths, and sort prizes. Time commitment – 5-month project

Inclusiveness - Develop at least one creative program or event that is inclusive of and attractive to a diverse membership. Develop a membership recruitment and retention plan that promotes inclusiveness and diversity. For this plan to be successful, everyone must fully buy into the plan’s aims & expectations. Create an environment in which every member is welcomed and valued for his or her unique abilities and contributions. Consider the various needs up front to help all families participate in PTA.

Science Day (2nd Grade Lead Only) – The volunteer has the opportunity to direct students through a “hands-on” science experiment in their classroom. The experiments are simple and have been used successfully by parents in our classrooms for the past two years. Time commitment – one day of school, plus time needed to learn the experiment ahead of time and purchase materials (4 hours). Volunteers work in sets of two or three per experiment. They will either be the classroom leader or an assistant.

Science Fair – Volunteers needed to assist in set-up, registration, and judging of the science projects. The Science Fair enables students to create scientific projects based on their own creative ideas. Specific guidelines provide students the opportunity to generate, design, test, and provide results of the experiment. Finalists represent Canyon Creek in the Austin Science Fest in early spring. Time commitment – 1 hour a week at home in the fall for preparation/planning, with 1.5 day commitment to run the science fair at school in late Jan/early Feb.

TAKS Snack - Coordinate morning snacks provided to teachers during TAKS testing days. Time – 5 hrs a month during TAKS months: February and April/May

Contact: Marisa Sladek at Marisa@Sladeks.com if you are interested in any of the above positions. Or to volunteer to help on an existing committee, please click here for the volunteer form.
